Katherine has always been interested in Pirates.  When she was little she was fascinated with Pirates.  I remember reading her books about Pirates when she was barely able to understand.  She has continued that fascination.  Living on the Outer Banks rich in Pirate History has added to that interest.  I have been a War Between the States reenactor for years.  So when Katherine and I were going to go to the Hampton Roads Blackbeard Festival in June of 2004 I decided we would go as Pirates.  So I contacted the "Blackbeard's Crew" in Hampton and they told me where to go on the net to get the "authentic cloths, articles, weapons and all of the paraphernalia" of Pyracy.  They were a big help.  So with the help of some fellow Pirate reenactors and my credit card Katherine and I were on the road to Pyracy.

We had a wonderful time at the Blackbeard Festival.  Katherine fit right in with her fellow Pirates.  We camped and ate with the Pirates.  We learned so much and had a time we would never forget.  But that just whetted our appetite.  We both started to read and research the fascinating subject of Pyracy.  We added to our arsenal, Pirate paraphernalia and articles. 

We booked a flight to Key West to attend the Pirates In Paradise Festival.  We had to ship most of our equipment because we had so many weapons.  So there we were in Key West with over 100 other Pirates.  We crewed up with the “Pyrates of the Coast”.  It was the “Pirates of the Coast” that gave Katherine her Pirate name, BLACK KAT. For six days we ate, talked and lived life as a Pirate.  For six days, we were Pirates!  It was hard to drop the Pirate talk when we boarded the plane to return.  “Arrrr!  Can me first mate here have a window seat there Lassie?”  But we returned to the Outer Banks and were able to get back into our routine.  But we realized we would forever be Pirates!

Since returning home we have been asked to appear at many functions.  We have enjoyed them all.  The following pages go into more detail on our lives as Pirates!
