Our First Weekend as Pirates!

June 2004 Katherine and I attended the Hampton Roads Blackbeard Festival as pirate reenactors. We had the time of our lives. Hanging out with, camping, staging mock land and sea battles, eating a “period dinner” on a “tall ship”, all with the Pirates. The first picture is of Blackbeard himself and his wife Miss DeeGee with Katherine. We were able to spend quite a lot of time the first evening with them. They were so much fun. Katherine was enamored with the Captain and Miss DeeGee. The next photo shows Katherine outside of the Pirate’s Ball with some of her fellow Pirates. Next you see her being shackled by Captain McGuyver. The next day some of the members of “Blackbeard’s Crew” put Katherine to work at their booth selling pirate gear. That is Stan and you can barely see Miss Karen behind him. Katherine seemed to be a natural selling Pirate gear.

Later Katherine and I hung (a scary choice of words for a Pyrate) out outside of the Pyrate's Ball. What an affair. Here we are socializing with Pirates from all over the country

Here we are with Capt. Bill Hall and the crew of the "Florie". We served with the crew of the "Florie" for the attack on the Pyrate encampment and later we attacked the Tallship "Kalamer Knickle". The background to the right is a repeated photo of the "Kalmar Knyckle" firing at us.

This is just a group of Pyrates that were around the camp when someone said "Let's get a picture!" I would say this was about half of the Pyrates that were there. Can you pick Katherine and I out of the group?

Blackbeard’s Crew”

Blackbeard’s Crew” is a reenactment group that operates out of Hampton VA. They put on the Hampton Roads Blackbeard Festival and they do a fantastic job. Katherine and I are members of this group but living in another state we do not get to participate in many of their activities. They are a fantastic group and if you are thinking of becoming a Pirate and you live in the Hampton Roads area you should contact them. Here is their website
