Katherine’s Eighth Birthday Party.
Quite a Day!
September 2003. Katherine's eight birthday party. It was an overcast day with on and off rain showers.
. One of the fathers assisted me this year with the paddleboat rides on Ginguite Pond. There was a spot on
the other side of the pond way north of our house where a man wearing old colonial looking clothes, a sword, an eye patch,
a tri corner hat and brandishing an old muzzle loading pistol was yelling at them from the bank. He kept yelling that they
had better get away from his treasure and called them scalawags and scurvy dogs. He occasionally fired his pistol in the air
to punctuate his point. You could hear the pistol shots and the girls screaming all the way down the pond. I sent a camera
with John on the next trip up the pond and here are three of the pictures he was able to take. John was a bit leery to get
any closer to shore so the pictures are from a distance.
The first picture John took over the head of two of the girls in the back of the paddle boat. One of the girls
is Clair Thomas. Then next John has turned the boat and has a clear shot of the man on the bank. The third shot
John has braved the pistol shots in the air and the shouted insults and threats and has moved a bit closer. This is a
long way off but you can't blame him for not getting too close. You can make out the image of the armed and ranting
man on the shore.
